Location: Bottomless State Park, Roswell, New Mexico

We slept quite well.  Got in a good dog-tiring walk before packing.

The specter of the return trip has been like a dark cloud over our heads.  Our first mostly uphill drive.  Once we got to the highest spot on the entire drive, Ruidoso, we wondered what we were worried about.  It wasn’t difficult at all.  The day after, I looked at the altitudes.  Somehow we had gotten confused about Ruidoso’s altitude.  Probably because it has a ski mountain. But at the highway it is 6729 feet.  Roswell’s is 3573.  Two thousand two hundred feet altitude change is nothing spread out over fifty miles.

The drive was really nice and followed a small river.  It’s pretty; although, right now the grass is winter dead.
